Congratulations! Let the planning begin:
First you and your fiancé need to set the date and
start prioritizing. Start by ranking which aspects of the
wedding are most important, i.e. photographer, dress, location,
food, cake ect. Next you will want to set a budget. Now you
can decide how much money you want to spend on each priority.
Be realistic when budgeting. Be resourceful and creative when
planning and it will help save you money in the end.
Six Months to Three Months Before:
Select date and time. Decide type of wedding traditional
or modern. Select and reserve the location, arrange for a
clergy or wedding official. Select and order invitations,
announcements, enclosure cards and personal stationary. Choose
the attendants. Register for your gifts such as china, household
items, and other desired items. Make arrangements for a caterer,
musician, wedding rentals, and others involved in the reception.
Pick out the wedding gown, attendants gowns, and tuxes.
Two to Three Months:
Discuss reception and ceremony details with those involved.
Plan and start making preparations for the honeymoon. Complete
the guest list, plan for bridal portrait, order gowns and
headpieces for attendants, order proper attire for groomsmen,
and make sure wedding rings are ordered.
One to Two Months:
Order flowers for the ceremony and reception. Also order wedding
cake, and reception refreshments. Purchase gifts for attendants
and groomsmen. Make sure invitations are mailed out. Plan
the processional, ceremony, recessional and reception line.
Make arrangements for out of town guests, rehearsal dinner
and the ceremony music. Have final fitting for gown, arrange
fittings for attendant’s gowns, pick up rings, purchase
tickets and confirm reservations for the honeymoon. Verify
all legal, medical, religious documents.
Two Weeks to One Month:
Obtain marriage license, confirm delivery of all purchases,
and discuss all wedding day details. Arrange transportation
for wedding party, mail announcements, and pick up wedding
gown.
One to Two Weeks:
Give final number of confirmed guest to person handling the
reception. Arrange wedding rehearsal, rehearsal dinner, Bachelor
party, and bridesmaids party. Verify details of the florist,
photographer, caterer and other service people involved. Begin
packing for the honeymoon, make hair appointment, and present
gifts to attendants. Go over details for the head usher and
any special seating arrangements. Place ceremonial fees into
envelopes for the best man.
